Bound by silence
Bound by Silence
Who will hear me?
Who can I tell?
To whom shall I turn?
Alone in the silence, in the depths of despair
My tears fall to the ground
Forgotten and alone, behind these walls
Bound by silence I sit.
What is the meaning of life?
Why must I go on?
Is it for the gift or the cause?
Why must I be?
Where is the courage to be?
No smiles for the stranger,
I wake to die by him again
Forgotten and alone, behind these walls
Bound by silence I weep.
Was I not loved by him at all?
Did his love with my beauty fade?
The monster has many faces
Known by many to be great
and yet by him I have known evil
Who will hear my cry today?
Forgotten and alone, behind these walls
Bound by silence I wait.
Today perhaps is the day.
Although my youth is gone,
It is for my children that I dare
Yes, today is the day
I will be free from these walls
They all hear me, I know they do
Forever I shall be remembered
For it was not by fear but by courage.
Forgotten and alone, behind these walls
Bound by silence, I slept.

A tribute to all our sisters, mothers and friends we have lost to abuse of many kinds.
Thank you to all who stand fearlessly with the forgotten and silenced.
Your work challenges us to be better and to do better. (Isaiah 61:3)
