What Shall I Be

I am only but a little flower

The littlest in the bunch

The world so daring, so vast

Its majesty so loud

What shall I be?

Shall I be great? Shall I be small?

Bending my stalk, bruising my petals

Only for a moment and I will be gone

And yet upwards I must grow

Because I know that I shall be.

I have known another flower

Great was her path

But to another light she turned

Desiring to shine so soon she was burned

What she would be, never to be known.

The King decrees that great I must be

His light my treasure and my guide

I am confident that I shall be

But what shall I be?

Oh, great I must be.

Little flower great you shall be

Her majesty the rose once but a little stalk

Shinning with her petals glistening in the sun

A little flower no more

Great she became.

Once a little flower

The littlest in the bunch

The world so daring, so vast

Its majesty so loud

Upward she grew, in the kings light she stood

A little flower no more, great she became.
